Nor should he counsel a person to divorce his or her spouse. Regarding marriage and divorce, the church instructs its leaders: "No priesthood officer is to counsel a person whom to marry. The church teaches that if couples keep their lives centered on Jesus Christ, their love will grow. The LDS Church also teaches that marriage is a partnership of equals, and that partners should be thoughtful, respectful, and loyal to one another. A revelation in the Doctrine and Covenants states: "Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else." Church leaders have taught that this commandment applies equally to wives loving their husbands. The church teaches that in addition to civil marriage, which ends at death, a man and woman can enter into a celestial marriage, performed in a temple by priesthood authority, whereby the marriage and parent–child relationships resulting from the marriage will last forever in the afterlife. Marriage is thought to consist of a covenant between the man, the woman, and God. ![]() The strength and temper conditions of aluminum alloy rivets are identified by digits and letters similar to those adopted for the identification of strength and temper conditions of aluminum and aluminum alloy stock. The material used for the majority of aircraft solid shank rivets is aluminum alloy. The temper designation and strength are indicated by special markings on the head of the rivet. The designation of the solid shank rivet head type, such as universal head, roundhead, flathead, countersunk head, and brazier head, depends on the cross sectional shape of the head. They are identified by the kind of material of which they are made, their head type, size of shank, and their temper condition. Solid shank rivets are generally used in repair work. Two of the major types of rivets used in the aircraft are the common solid shank type, which must be driven using a bucking bar, and the special (blind) rivets, which may be installed where it is impossible to use a bucking bar. In addition to their use for joining aircraft skin sections, rivets arc also used for joining spar sections, for holding rib sections in place, for securing fittings to various parts of the aircraft, and for fastening innumerable bracing members and other parts together. The shop head functions in the same manner as a nut on a bolt. ![]() The second head, formed either by hand or by pneumatic equipment, is called a "shop head." The shank of the rivet is placed through matched holes in two pieces of material, and the tip is then upset to form a second head to clamp the two pieces securely together. A head is formed on one end when the rivet is manufactured. It is the most common method used to fasten or join aluminum alloys in aircraft construction and repair.Ī rivet is a metal pin used to hold two or more metal sheets, plates, or pieces of material together. Riveting is satisfactory from the standpoint of strength and neatness, and is much easier to do than welding. To make a good union and a strong joint, aluminum parts can be welded, bolted, or riveted together. The process used must produce a union that will be as strong as the parts that are joined.Īluminum and its alloys are difficult to solder. Several methods are used to hold metal parts together they include riveting, bolting, brazing, and welding. An aircraft, even though made of the best materials and strongest parts, would be of doubtful value unless those parts were firmly held together. This makes them look crisper and clearer. They then buy a recommended hearing aid from the site and then take it to a professional in their area for a fitting fee in the range of $500, Rogin says. (See the HIA website for the list.) A consumer can even get their hearing tested at some manufacturer's sites. "Our members have some very cool internet sites," says Carole Rogin of the HIA. Once anathema, direct-to-consumer online sales are now being embraced by many of the global manufacturers and industry organizations. So what's a hard-of-hearing consumer to do? Go online. And industry professionals also point out economies of scale: Apple sold 3 million iPads in the first 72 hours of a recent launch the hearing aid industry sells 3 million units in one year. "If iPads were personalized and worn in the body, those prices would rise too," says HIA's Rogin. "The key to effectively treating hearing loss is the person who takes care of the patient," says Rita Chaiken, president of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) and an audiologist in Atlanta. But that two-thirds is the most important part of the equation, say hearing care professionals. The device typically accounts for one-third of the total price, and professional fees and services the remaining two-thirds, according to Dave Fabry, audiological consultant to the Washington-based HIA. ![]() "I have never had a patient I couldn't find a hearing aid for within their budget," she says. The key is to discuss options with your audiologist, says Carly Girard, an audiologist with several practices in Illinois. This makes them competitive with Costco, which offers devices from the big manufacturers as well as its signature brand, Kirkland, in the same price range. According to an April 2016 issue of the Hearing Review, a trade magazine, some hearing aid providers offer models at prices ranging from under $1,500 to under $500. Not true, say hearing care professionals. Patrick Freuler, chief executive of Audicus, an online company that partners with a German manufacturer to sell private-label hearing aids, makes the point that consumers are not being offered the low-cost choices, but are being presented with only luxury devices. When buying a car, for example, the consumer not only can choose between a Lexus and a Chevrolet, but also decide on particular features, such as wire wheels or gold trim. Blazer and others recommend that pricing be unbundled, so consumers know what they are really paying for and can make choices. This includes not only manufacturer's costs like materials and research and development, but also the expenses incurred by the provider: rent, salaries, training, licenses, diagnostic machines, marketing and ongoing patient support. "This is problematic," says Blazer.Īnother problem, he adds, is lack of transparency, "including transparency of the cost of production of hearing aids compared to the cost to distributors." Many hearing care professionals bundle all their costs into the final retail price. Not all models are available at all dispensers. Consumer choice is also limited because hearing aid providers typically contract with only two or three selected manufacturers, says Carole Rogin, president of the Hearing Industries Association (HIA). Six global manufacturers control 90 percent of the market. Gibbons professor of psychiatry emeritus at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., who chaired the NASEM committee. ![]() What’s the point of an action figure if it can’t hold itself up?Īnd in another case of cruel reality, the huge accessories weigh more than the figure itself so it’s also practically impossible to pose the figure in action poses with weapons.
